IN WHICH BEAR CONSIDERS RECENT WEATHER DEVELOPMENTS

The Weather

You may remember a week or so ago, Bear was worrying about the temperatures struggling to get above freezing. (Well, I was, even if you don't remember.)

Yesterday, the temperatures got up to almost 30°C (which is about 86 F).

Somehow, it seems to me we have been picked up and re-located in Texas. For the record, Houston hit 84 F yesterday. So, here in the Great White North of Canada, we were hotter than Texas. I'll bet that doesn't happen too often. But with all the global environmental changes, it's not worth betting on whether that will happen again.

Strange things are happening. Strange; very strange. None of this makes sense to your Bear. Perhaps the problem is that Bear thinks things should make sense. Sigh!

Meanwhile in Saskatchewan

A friend was talking yesterday about the changeability of the weather here. Which recalls a bit of wisdom.

If you change the environmental system in your house from heat, to air conditioning, and back to heat in the same day, you may be living in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Strange, but true. On a day like yesterday.

Blessings and Bear hugs, folks!

  1. We got to 81 here in the Pacific Northwest yesterday, way up there the Canadian border. It's strange, all right! I'm always glad to hear the roar of my favorite Bear! :-)

  2. Oh my, that is quite a change in the weather. Things like that ( even though I enjoy them occasionally, especially in February) do oncern me also. Hopefully, your temperatures will go down to a nice comfortable 70 degrees.

  3. If you don't like the spring weather in Saskatchewan, wait 15 minutes.

  4. I have the heater on too, although I think it is a personal problem because it is not that cold outside. I just have the need to be warm and cozy and feel no chill whatsoever. Maybe I'm a spoiled Western European.

  5. After heavy rains, it's now strangely pleasant in northern Florida. What will the summer bring?

  6. Sounds like you had a lovely warm day but what a change from what you must be used to! Enjoy the warm weather, catch the rays, and bask in the sun!!

  7. Freezing temps then 86 degrees? Yikes......that kind of variation is concerning. After 10 days of 100 plus temperatures last summer, I was happy to have a relatively normal winter in our parts. Hoping we don't repeat the heat wave this year.

  8. I definitely used to say similar things during spring in New England. The common phrase was 'if you don't like the weather in Boston, wait 5 minutes'. Here in Phoenix we've been in the 80's or above for the last month (maybe more). At least its expected in the desert AND we also didn't just get snow. Very strange indeed.

  9. 86 here in Western Oregon, which is 21 degrees above normal, and we're looking a severe drought this summer based upon the fact that this is usually a season of rainfall, but this year, it's all sunshine.

    1. Well, when you're hot, you're hot, Snow. And, in your case, also dry. Hot and dry is no fun at all.

  10. It was 85 here in Oakland at the weekend. I know! People don't come here for the education and the nice roads but the weather is awesomeness.

    1. And here I thought Oakland was full of "higher education" centres — University of California, etc.

If you think 85 is awesome, think about walking around in a fur coat all the time. I mean, do you wear your fur coat in 85 degree weather? Surely you get my point.

      Blessings and Bear hugs, Jody!

  11. We are finding the same problem here in San Diego. The day heats us up into the 80s and the night takes us down to the 40s. Blankets and shorts.

    1. Blankets and shorts. Good iconography. Here's another. If you see someone walking around wearing shorts and a heavy sweater, you may be in Saskatchewan. Or California.

  12. Wow after reading this and the comments, I realize New England is the place to be. Its beautiful here without being hot, rainy, snowy, sleety or generally all around crummy. Its been consistently springy for the past few days. Im sure its apt to change but currently its all good. Lucky us.

  13. You could actually be living here too, the temps fluctuate wildly. Right now it is cold, cold, cold, my hubby just lit a fire in the fireplace because he put away the floor heaters in the living room because it was so hot last week.

  14. It is either bloody hot or bloody cold here in Newcastle Australia ( 2 hours from Sydney)- no Autumn, no Spring.
Having said that I LOVE the cold ( totally dislike the heat) and the fireplace is going strong. Lisa xx

  15. You wake up every day and get a surprise!

  16. Da-ang! That's just wrong. It's been cooler here in north Texas. Bear may have to do some shedding!

    1. Shedding isn't the answer. I need a good trim all over. Do you know a barber who will give a Bear a trim?

      You understand my problem, then.

  17. My son sent me photos of where he lives in Cold Lake, Alberta. He said it hit 27C and that everyone was on the beach tanning and playing frisbee.. but for some reason, nobody was swimming. The photos of the lake showed that it was still about half frozen.

    1. If everyone is at the beach tanning and playing, but nobody's swimming because there's too much ice on the lake, you may be living in Canada. You can trust the Bear on this one.

Thanks for the note, HIlary. BTW, did you see the note that Cathie is moving from Muskoka to Cold Lake?

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

  18. The weather has been odd lately. Even here in South Africa.

  19. Could you siphon off some of that heat in this direction?

  20. I actually have the same weather here. Almost 100F, down to freezing, and up again!

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
