IN WHICH BEAR ISSUES A WARNING AND UPDATES ANOTHER MATTER

The Continuing Misadventures of Don Quixote

Poor Don Quixote. Still trying to do the right thing. Still getting bashed and beaten for his efforts.

In the most recent chapter, Señor Quixote encounters a chain of prisoners being taken to the king's galleys. After inquiring about their circumstances, he sets about to liberate them, an act in which they take part. Then he makes a small request of the criminals. Their response is to attack him with a blizzard of stones. Poor Don Quixote, his horse (Rocinante) his squire (Sancho) and Sancho's donkey all end up in a bruised and battered state.

Don Quixote's assessment of the situation is that "doing good to the lowborn is throwing water into the sea."

The More-Than-Momentary Disappearance of the Bear

When it comes to computers, 2013 ended on a bad note, with the Bear having to clean out and re-download all his main files — losing a number of items in the process.

Now, 2014 is starting on a similar note. But much worse.

Bear has a defective main drive in his computer. Grrrrrrr!

Which means the current hard drive will have to be replaced, a new one inserted, and re-programmed. This is not looking good.

So, if Bear disappears sometime, with no notice, and doesn't return promptly, please understand that I have not gotten mad and gone away in a huff. It's just that my computer is just being reconstructed. Rebuilt. Whatever.

Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Computers are more easily replaced than Bears. Fortunately.

Those red boots of yours are something special!

  2. Computer troubles are no fun at all.

You mentioned the lack of snow in my pictures - well there is snow on the ground now. The boys didn't have school today.

    1. No snow, then a huge dump. That's been the story in a lot of places this winter. Hope your horses are adjusting to it.

  3. We are truly at the mercy of the newfangled technology. I'm beginning to use my phone as my swiss-army tool, to write and respond to emails, to read comments on blogs, even send text messages to those who may not check their emails at all. Why do we need this much technology?

    1. I suppose we have the technology just because we can, and because it's useful. The younger generation (my daughter, for instance) uses her phone for more things than I can think of. My laptop has all the features I can use, so I don't have one of those phones. You are further progressed than I.

But I don't want to spend money on both phone and computer, so I stick with the computer.

    1. Thanks, fishducky. Technology is great — when it works.
When it doesn't, it's almost like a death in the family. GRRRRRR

  5. well, it could be worse... the electricity could go out?

    1. No stones from this department. If the power goes out, we throw a couple of gophers or ground squirrels in a cage with a wheel, and they generate all the power I need.

I may be only a Bear, but I've been around long enough to have figured out some things.

      Blessings and Bear hugs, Janice!

  6. There are very few problems that cause my blood pressure to rise like computer woes. I do hope you are able to get everything transferred to a good hard drive, Bear. (sigh)

    1. To err is human; to really foul things up, you need a computer. I'll have a few dollars is a day or two. Then I'll buy an external hard drive. Then I'll back up my documents, etc., to the external hard drive. Then I'll take the computer in for repairs. Sigh! That's a lot of work.

  7. Evil Twin says that whatever is wrong with your computer was caused by Aliens. She has offered to repair the damage herself.

Um....I would run if I were you.

    1. Thank you for the message, Reffie. Please tell Evil Twin that I very much appreciate her offer. However, the work is covered under warranty, so unless she can prove she is a certified Apple technician, she does't get to touch it. Or even get near it.

Blessings and Bear hugs, even to ET.

  8. I also recall there was a great deal of hilarity about vomit in that book. Ooops, hope I didn't spoil anything - like your lunch, for instance.

We discovered a new battery for one of ours is half the cost of the machine. Sometimes it's the better bet to get a new computer.

    1. Oh, YUCK! Spoiled my bedtime. GRRRRRR

And, yes, sometimes it is better to get a new computer. That perhaps, is the reason those items are priced that way.

  17. Jeepers Bear, there I was hoping to give you late breaking news that it was 40 degrees F in NYC at 7 pm this evening, and it seems that you might be temporarily technologically out of touch.

    Please return soon. xo

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN AWARD-FREE AND MEME-FREE SITE. While I'm honoured to receive awards, I find they take way too much energy in completing. Thanks, but no, thanks.
