IN WHICH BEAR GETS A WEEKA WACKY WEATHER.

It has been a very odd week, in terms of the weather, in the land of the Bear.

Saturday, +10 (50F) and sunny

Can you see the little stream of water coming out the downspout?

Sunday, +5 (41F) and sunny

Monday, -20 (-4F) and sunny, with snow in the evening.

Sidewalk waiting to be cleared the next day.

Tuesday, -5 (23F) and cloudy

"Gloomy day, isn't it." said Eeyore

Wednesday, -27C (-17F)

Thursday, -5 (23F, again) with the threat of freezing rain (that, fortunately, never came)

Friday, +4 (40F) and the snow is melting! Nice clear sidewalk at the front (though still a bit damp),

puddles at the back,

and the snow is coming off the clear plastic roof over our back deck.

All of which brings to mind some fanciful song lines:

Ho-ho, He-he, Ha-ha,
Someone made a faux pas
when setting up the laws of nature
here in Canada.

 Blessings and Bear hugs, friends.

  1. Are people supposed to be living there? Should Canada be left for the Canadian Geese, the Caribou, and the Polar Bears?

Your wacky weather pictures and temps let me know that I live where I'm supposed to be living.

    Stay warm!

    1. People have been living here for tens of thousands of years, Anita. Along with the Geese, Caribou, and Polar Bears. (Actually, the Caribou and Bears are not doing all that well, what with oil pipelines and global climate change wrecking the landscape.) So as long as they stay, I guess we'll be staying too.

Glad you're comfortable where you are.

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Yes, you usually get our weather about 24 hours or so after we get it. Not that either of us can do anything about the matter, Buttons.

I'm nice and warm here, thanks, but hibernation is just not happening for me this winter. I miss my nap.

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

  3. We are having similar weather here in Pennsylvania. I am getting tired of the color white and It is way too cold to even venture out. Of course, you Canadians are of hardier stock and are more used to this artic weather.

    1. Yes, I believe we're more accustomed to his cooler weather, and the colour white everywhere you look (except for the dirty, gritty roads). But I'm confident you'll survive, or move to Florida.

  4. Craziness. Bears will be driven to the point of insanity. Fresh fish one day, frozen fish the next. Hibernate or wake up? It's a tough, tough life.

    Sigh.

I think the moral is to just wait a few days and no shoveling will be required.

    1. I certainly agree with waiting. Never do today whatever you can put off until tomorrow, especially if there is a chance someone else will do it tomorrow. That's simple.

  5. I'm cold. Houses in Florida aren't built to withstand chilly weather.

    1. Well, if you're cold, try lighting a fire in the fireplace. You do have a fireplace, don't you? I mean, no house is complete without at least one.

    2. I have a fireplace, but it would need to be cleaned and inspected for me to use it so I have to rely on the furnace a couple of space heaters for now.

    3. Here's hoping you get the fireplace going. Or maybe not. Maybe it's too warm for a fireplace.

  7. Rob-bear, our NYC folks could be humming a version of your Canadian weather tune. I believe our temperature will rise to just below freezing today, and we will have a bit more snow. Then it's down to 16 overnight and a steady rise to 22 F tomorrow.

Brrrr. There's a big, some say Super football game to be played soon. I am not a fan, but think it's next weekend. The weather will most likely be in the 20's. Fun? Expensive fun?

    1. Sorry to hear you're having such uncertain weather, Frances. Does make it hard to decide what to wear, day to day. And whether to get more salt to put on the ice. (Oh, wait; you don't have that problem. As long as the manager looks after things.)

      Blessings and Bear hugs.

  8. Ours is strange too- 60 one day 25 the next..threats of snow, threats of sleet...nothing comes of it, but everyone makes a mad dash to the grocery store to buy up all the milk and bread. Big sigh. I am ready for spring!

  10. It seems winter conditions around here swing between extremes as well. Now I know why most people wear rubberized snow boots. Frozen slush is the worst.

    1. If not rubberized snow boots, then waterproofed leather — either silicone spray, or mink oil, or something like that.

  12. We have been having some extreme weather here in Indiana. Blizzard conditions and lots of canceling of school for the kids. I just barely get us dug out and here it comes again! ♥

    1. Sorry you're having extreme weather in Indiana. We're accustomed to this every winter. Not so much the wild temperature variations, but the cold, and snow, and such. We had six solid months of winter last year. But for people who are not accustomed to this kind of weather, I can see it would be a real challenge.

Hope you all stay well. Blessings and Bear hugs!

    2. This is by far the worst winter we have had in a while. The schools are always closed either from the blizzard conditions, the dangerous wind chill, or the extreme cold. School was cancelled for tomorrow too. At least I got the latest onslaught cleared out of the driveway with the snow blower today. Stay safe and warm! ♥

    1. Well, we had snow for six months last winter, here in River City. But this year is another version of "true winter." I think I'm going to take an igloo-making course next winter.

Please, be "cool," but stay warm.

  17. Haha! Never heard that ditty, but you are a brave soul, negotiating the laws of weather in Canada at this time of year. I have temporarily escaped the Polar Vortex of the midwest to enjoy some sun by the sea. But alas, cold and maybe snow is a possibility even here this week, so the weather mavens say!

Your photos and your thoughts, remind me of the times I've spent in Hope, British Columbia. If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes.

Be well and stay warm, eh.

I'll try to stay warm; hope you stay comfortable.

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
