IN WHICH BEAR UNDERTAKES HIS MYSTERIOUS MISSION

Right. We'll need to take that. That has to go. Oh, not sure about that. We definitely need to bring this along, too!

Lao tzu (the so-called "Father of Taoism") once observed, "a journey of a thousand miles beings with a single step."

That's not entirely true.

A journey of a thousand miles actually begins with a good plan, and good packing. (You can quote me; Bears know about these things.)

  1. Ah, the plot thickens. Or is that Bear being thick? :-)

    1. No, DJan. The thot plickens. The only thing which thickens is the hunny; it always thickens when the weather gets colder.

BTW — like you picture; very good.

  2. I remember a post where you said bears don't like karma. Oh no wait! They don't like cars! I'm sticking with my previous comments about enigmatic literary bears. The caniche agrees sends his love.

    1. This is why I worry about you and Skip, Zoe. I would hate to learn you had run over your dogma with your karma.

And, for the record, Bears like neither cars nor trains. Both cars and trains are big killers of Bears, and both are operated by Humans.

  3. I'm pretty sure a journey of a thousand miles is actually supposed to be about fifty and begins with a guy saying "I don't need a map, I already know the way".

    1. Very possible, Kellie. Now you know why I am strictly a map and compass kid of guy. Er, um, Bear — map and compass kind of Bear. (Learned about that in Bear Scouts.)

  4. Comfy shoes and clean underwear are most important.

You sound so excited about this secret trip. Having a sense of adventure and a good attitude is something to pack also. It appears that you have that already taken care of that, Bear.

    1. Except Bears don't wear shoes or underwear. Sense of adventure packed in heaping quantities. Having fun already!

  5. I'm thinking now that hiking boots are involved? At least tell us how many pairs of socks you packed, so we will know the length of this mystery adventure. LOL!

    1. I can't remember how many socks, but the adventure will be over by the end of the month. So now you know the length of this journey. Not that long, but very interesting.

  6. TAKE NOTHING. How's that? Is this a journey to one place forever more? So much reason to TAKE NOTHING.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to start over. Begin anew. Leave the past in the past.....But I'd take Beau and my afghan. That's about what my life has boiled down to.

    1. But how will I eat without my hunny? And nuts? And fish? A Bear's gotta eat! And I've been carefully planning my meals, and saving up my supplies.

  16. SO mysterious! And so intriguing. This post is actually a mirror to what is going on in my house (den to you) these days also. We have decided to move to Texas to be near Writer Son and Sassy Bride! After 58 years as a Californian, I'm not sure what is in store, but excited to start fresh in the big state. And scared!
Good luck on your new adventure...cannot wait to hear more...don't you dare quit writing this blog and letting us in on the fun, ok? (Even if it's not-so-fun.)

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
