Most of us know other bloggers by the ideas we share through our blogs and, occasionally e-mails notes, or twitter bursts. And we have delightful relationships which can last years.
On rare occasion we actually get to meet each other.
So Bear was very happy to learn that Deborah Summer Muth, who blogs at Miracle Sisters, was going to be in River City! (You may also know Deborah's sister, Amanda Summer, of Travels with Persephone.) Deborah was in town to participate in a international "focus group" — I'll let her explain.
Anyhow, Deborah let me know ahead that she and husband Steve were coming, and we decided to have a face-to-face visit by bloggers. Deborah and Steve were staying at a local hotel, so getting together was really easy. (Amanda had mentioned to Deborah that she would be in the Bear's territory if she came to River City; the meet was arranged — and the hotel was not declared a disaster area because a Bear was loose in there for several hours.)
The conversation; oh, my goodness! You get a self-described "environmental activist feminist filmmaker" together with a Bear who's a writer-broadcaster-pastor-ethicist, and you know it's going to be an amazingly wonderful chat. Which, of course, it was!

Thanks to Deb for the wonderful visit, and for Steve's picture!
Blessings and Bear hugs, all!
Oh, what fun! I've met some bloggers, too, and we really had a great time together. Other than the severe sunburn the Bear seems to have acquired, it's a great picture! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is the second blogger I've met. And meeting bloggers is such fun!
DeleteThe sunburn was provided by the lighting in the restaurant, so fear not for the Bear.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
So the Bear has a face! It's a good face. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun was that! Meeting a blog friend - something that many of us have yet to do. I know that it will happen for me one day.
When I first started blogging, I would not have wanted to meet anyone because I had no idea, then, how much I could get to know someone via blog and email exchanges.
Yeah! to you, Deborah, and Amanda!
We do get to know each other over time, don't we! And it is such fun. Meting someone you would not normally have contacted.

The bear is welcome whenever he comes to India. We have some bears here as well :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, KK. India is a place about which I have wondered, but never seen.

Oh my ... is it Bear in the flesh, on my monitor, really? All I can say is I've been your 'blog bud' for several years (did you know that?) ... I remember the first comment you left for me ~~ one of the Willow Balls ~~ so wonderful to pair your Bear face with your blog Ursidae persona ~ they fit beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI have met one blogger in person .. Kathe from 'It's A Snap' who lives on my side of the US and I would love to visit with Rosaria one day.
Deborah has the face of an intrepid activist and filmmaker ... she is gorgeous!!
Ah, yes; you and I have been friends for a while. Time flies when we're having fun.
DeleteWillow Ball. Memory serves you were with Stafford Ray that evening. The two of you really cut quite the fine figure on the dance floor. That was when Ms. Weaver was with me. Ah, je me souviens, as the French put it, longingly. I think that was the year that my bottle of Mead was finished before I even got to it. People "just wanted a taste." GGGRrrr. . . oh well; these things happen in the best regulated of families, as the saying goes.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Glad that you had this opportunity, Bear. I have always really enjoyed meeting other bloggers, too.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
Meeting bloggers is fun! I recall you met someone from Cowart's School a year or two ago, in New York. My goodness; time really does fly!

A few years ago when I first started blogging we met face to face with one of my blogging buddies. Our son was moving to North Dakota and the blogger lived in Nebraska--not very far out of the way for us. We spent the night in a little town near their house and had a delightful dinner and visit at their house. A couple years later she and her husband came and spent the night at our house. It wasn't quite as fun the second time, but I often have that affect... :P
ReplyDeleteIt really is fun to connect, whether online or in person. :)

Meting a stranger who isn't quite a stranger, is an interesting experience. Glad you've met a blogger.

Isn't it wonderful to meet who we write to and become friends with over the blog? And I get to see a picture of you too! sandie
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a fun visit. And how fun for all of us to finally see your face, which looks just like the face of that bear in your best portrait. How great is that!
ReplyDeleteBear, what a great picture!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun.
Thanks, Rosaria. It was a good time.

I bet the hotel was aglow with all that conversation. I've never met a bloggie friend face to face. Talked to a few on the phone. A very good photo of the two of you.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is much redder than real life. But the smiles are good! Thanks.
DeleteHave you been back to the farm?

You're a suspender guy, eh? Lovely cross you've got there.
ReplyDeleteMy life is always exciting, Snow, because I keep myself in suspense. So to speak.
DeleteThanks for the comment on th cross. My wife also got me a turquoise ring when she was in Arizona earlier this year.
Blessing and Bear hugs!
I've met one blogger friend, and will meet another later this summer. It's so exciting.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Exciting it is, indeed!

If there ever was a conversation I would have wanted to be a fly on the wall for - that would have been one...teehee!
ReplyDeleteSorry I couldn't accommodate you. But Deb is from Montana, if that helps.

It is great to meet up with bloggers - doesn't happen often enough.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, Cosmo. So, are you going to move closer to Canada?
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
How fun! I'm glad a good time was had by all and that there was no growling from the bear.
ReplyDeleteA bit of growling from the Bear's stomach, but I managed to behave myself. Not sure what Evil Twin would have done in my situation.

How nice for you both! I met a local blogger through our mutual friend Sandie at Chatty Crone. Funny someone from Georgia introduced me to someone in my own back yard. Blogging is like that I guess.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun! Sandie and Disco are such delights. Just like you and Skip, le caniche.

lovely. I have never really met any of my blogger friends- must do that some day.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you have never met a blogger friend. It's a fun get-together. Almost like someone you've known for a long time, and are just seeing again. Maybe you need to more closer to Canada.

Yes, it is delightful to put a face and a voice, and a lot more history, to someone we know only in outline through the blogsphere.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
It's fun meeting bloggers and facebook peeps we haven't met before. I've met a couple of my friends from facebook when they've come into town and we had fun. That's a great picture of you both.

Like old friends meeting again, Mary. Such a delight.

Sounds like a fun blog encounter!

How lovely to actually meet face-to-face. :)
ReplyDeleteA particular opportunity, considering how far apart we are all spread.

Sounds absolutely lovely. There are so many bloggers I'd love to meet one day. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was a grand time. There are lots more I'd like to meet, too. But that will depend on who is doing what. There are very long distances involved in some cases.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs.
You must have had a lot to discuss. You have so much in common and so much to give to the world.
ReplyDelete:)
A long and delightful conversation. Thanks for your kind comment.

Oh, Rob. Such a lovely meeting. I had the pleasure of drawing your portrait and there is a closeness that an artist gets from drawing the personality of the subject. I feel as if we have met, but to actually be the beneficiary of such a wonderful "face to face" would be glorious.
ReplyDeleteThat would, indeed, be such a delight! And thanks, again, for the portrait!
