the grass is riz,
I wonder where
the grass fires is.
Why, at the high school —
right across from the Bears' place!
NO, I didn't see the fire engines, but I saw the "aftermath."
I suspect "carless smoking," but it could be something else. I wasn't in charge of the investigation, so I don't know.
Blessing and Bear hugs, everyone.
I hope you have a fine weekend, Bear. I love to read your posts and I'm glad you seem to be keeping yourself in the blogosphere! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan. I may not be posting quite as regularly as usual, but I'm not going away. Until next winter, if I decide to hibernate, as most Bears do.
DeleteI enjoy hearing about your mountain climbing and parachuting. I don't suppose you have tried those at the same time, though I guess you could parachute to the top and walk down.
Blessings and Bear hugs!

Bear, I wanted to let you know that I've been reading lots of your posts...you certainly have emerged with hibernation. I don't always leave you a comment, but I do read just about all your posts.
ReplyDeleteHoping that there will not be any more grass fires so near your den. Hoping that any careless smokers got their own "wake up" call with the arrival of the fire truck.
xo
Thanks for letting me know, Frances. I don't always leave comments either. I'm glad you find my writing interesting enough to keep returning. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Bear,
ReplyDeleteDo you mean you slept right through the fire and you were not out there in your helmet with your sand bucket. We all needed a good sleep after April ended.
SSSSSSHHHHHHH, Manzanita. I don't want people to know tat i occasionally miss "big" stories (at least big for our neighbourhood). But April as a busy month, wasn't it!
DeleteAny plans on when you're going to move back to the farm?

I live in west Texas which has a very dry climate and we are in a severe drought. Wildfires are very common here, it only takes one act of carelessness and a little wind. Living out in the country and seeing an orange glow on the horizon is terrifying.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you west Texas folks stay safe, Josie!

I always hate to see any fire in nature, although it is said that some of them are good for regeneration. It's good to see you so active, Bear. I guess you are all done hibernating. The sun is showing its face here quite often and I hope it is over there too. We all need the vitamin D.
ReplyDeleteI am well and truly out of hibernation. Sun is shining but wind is cold. Will be out food shopping later (yesterday did not go as planned).
DeleteI hope you're having a wonderful weekend, Irene.

Love your poem!!
ReplyDeleteNo much of a poem, I'm afraid. But thanks. All is did was serve as an intro to the rest of my post. Questionable context, perhaps.
DeleteI hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Good they put it out right away. Here in So. California, they are burning out of control last I heard. Scary season is upon us!
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw those California fires. Brutal, they are, Inger. I remember your having to take precautions last year, when things were so bad. I hope nothing unfortunate comes your way this year.

The grass that will soon grow there will be more lush than ever.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's dry up your way too. If the trend continues down here in Oregon, the fire season is going to be memorable.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're okay. Dare I say it? (Kids....)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. ☺
Yikes! Glad to hear they extinguished it and that you're all okay! Here in Phoenix we should be getting into wildfire season very soon as the monsoonal patterns pick up and lightning strikes the mountains. Stay safe out there!
ReplyDeleteGlad they were able to put it out. My brother lives in California where there's a wild fire happening right now, I hope they get that one put out soon too.

Wow, that's a bit too close for comfort!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your concern Susie. But there wasn't a lot of fuel to burn, and the fire was the other side of the street. Much ado about not very much.
DeleteI hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

cute poem. sweet. glad it was no real threat to you. stay safe. good weekend. Z~
ReplyDeleteThe poem was an editing of an old favourite. The fire was so insignificant that it wouldn't be worth a mention, except it was across the street from our place. There are few spots, like close to our previous home, were, if a fire got going, along the river, it would be a real problem.
DeleteHope our weekend is delightful.

What an image! I hope you are safe and sound too!
ReplyDeleteHey, I've got an award for you over at my blog!
Blessings and bear-hugs right backatcha! xo!
Autumn here and cold at that.
ReplyDeleteOur firebox joined the season late yesterday afternoon.
Yes, winter is on its way x
The joy of working with wood. It heats you twice. Once when you cut it; second time, when you burn it.

Ouch! Good thing it was out quickly, and that fire occurs in nature. Hopefully it will come back better than before.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the grass will survive, and thrive. The whole event was a chance for the Fire Department to check its response time, I think. Really — much ado about nothing. A couple of 1.5 inch lines, and you'd have it knocked down in a couple of minutes. Then take a couple of rakes and check for hot spots. That's the dirty part, and takes longer.
DeleteDid I ever mentionI was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years, including Fire Chief in a small town for one year? One of the "miscellaneous" events in my life.
Blessings and Bear hugs.
