IN WHICH BEAR ENCOUNTERS SOMETHING STRANGE

Once again, Bears get a bad rap. Really, we won't kill you unless you antagonize us. Like endanger our babies, or do something equally ridiculous.

(From BadIdeas T-shits)

Blessings and Bear hugs, eh, from your friendly Bear?

Today's Weather Report
It is supposed to go up to 29C tomorrow (which is 84F). But it will feel like 33C (or 91F). Way too hot for a Bear in a fur coat. I'll hide somewhere that has air conditioning. That should work. Yeah.

  1. I cannot imagine a better way to die than being killed by a bear in depression. I'd just tell him "You think YOU'RE depressed? Let me tell you about MY depression." and he'd run off with his paws over his ears.

    1. An extremely interesting note. I'll share that with some of my Bear buddies. I'll warn them to watch out for depressed Frogs!

    1. Up here it is hotter than last summer. We are not "cool" these days. In either meaning for that word.

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

  3. 84 is cool. I would be grateful for 84.

    1. Why would anyone in her/his right mind want to live in a place where 84F is considered cool?

Here's a deal. Get a fur coat (even an old one) and wear it 24/7 in 84 degree temperature for a week. Then tell me how "cool" 84 is.

Blessings and Bear hugs, to you, and Willy Dunne Wooters!

    2. Thank you. I shall tell WDW. I'm not in my right mind, but one reason to live in Florida is that winter is pleasant. I'll never shovel snow again.

    3. What? Shovelling snow is one of our finest winter pastimes in Canada! Didn't anybody every tell you?

    1. I'm so glad you like Bears! I'll bet you could get great Bear hugs around your area, if you saw a Bear, Buttons.

But, in case you don't, blessings and Bear hugs from here!

  5. We made it all the way to 79 degrees yesterday (that's 26 to you, Bear) and making it to 81 today. I think that's way too hot, so stay indoors where it's cooler than a sweltering 33!

    1. Glad you're in a cooler part of the world, DJan. It's 20 C (68F) at 9:00 a.m.. And it will get much hotter, as promised!

  6. Good grief. You will be hotter than us today. That's unusual. Stay cool, Killer Bear!

  7. What's the "Killer Bear" stuff? I am the most mild-mannered Bear in the bush! Even when I meet a ReformingGeek. (But I can stand my ground, too.)

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  8. That's not a nice T-shirt, it should be burned. I wish it was as cool here as it will be at your house. Being high up, we do get cold nights though, but the afternoons are a BEAR!

    1. There is, I suppose, some truth in the notion "that which does not kill me makes me stronger." Though frankly, I question that. And, yes, the rest is not kind to Bears. Thank you.

I hope the four of you are doing well. I'm glad you have Faith with you; she really is cute.

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

  9. I love bears, viewed from a vehicle, or with binoculars, or on TV. Love should not be careless.

    1. Love should not be careless, yes. At the same time, love should not be afraid. There is a balance in there, somewhere. But I am glad you love Bears. Bears cannot have too many friends or too much love.

    1. True: Bear does not have much money. But there are more important things, like friends.

    1. Bears really aren't that bad. (OK, we Brown/Grizzly/Kodiak Bears are a bit tougher, its true.) But where you are, you'll only find Black Bears (though they come in a variety of colours). They are far more likely to run away from you than you from them. Really! But if you don't feel comfortable around them, then, well, keep your distance. They tend to look just fine through binoculars and camera lenses.

      Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. We have a saying, "Be cool, but stay warm." Yes, it is a bit complicated to figure out, but it's interesting. Hope you're that way, too!

  15. I think you're talking about brown bars, because black bears won't kill you to save their babies. They will run away and let you have their babies. However, black bears will most certainly kill you if they're hungry.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Indeed, there are stories of Black Bears abandoning their cubs. And you're right; we Brown Bears are not like that. They call us Ursus arctos horribilis (emphasis on the horribilis) for a reason. Be warned! Also, try to be cool (in both senses of the word).

Peace, joy, and gentle Bear hugs to you!

  16. It's also true that walruses, seals, and sea lions (pinnipeds) are the closest living relatives to bears.

I hope you found that cool spot :)

    1. So that's why Bears like the water so much! I thought it was just to cool off. Thanks for the info, susan.

  17. I simply had to share ~~ my granddaughter is spending time with friends in Lake Tahoe ... A handsome bear climbed through a window in the house/cabin she is living in and proceeded to find and est their peanut butter! No injuries, the bear ambled out through the door and I have the photos to prove it! Do you like peanut butter?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Peanut butter is
      yummy!
      Almost as good
      as hunny.
      Glad for your
      granddaughter's
      experience;
      though it sounds
      funny!

I keep telling people that Bears won't likely hurt them. The best thing to do is just stay calm, or sleep through the experience. Now you have proof! Thanks, Helen.

Blessings and Bear hugs, with our without the peanut butter!

  19. hello mr. bear, i am trained to encounter black bears in my back yard but if i ever did, i just hope i would wave my arms and my voice like crazy and not turn around and run like hell :^)

    1. No, no, no. First you say, "Hello, Bear," is a calm, gentle, pleasant voice. If the Bear seems friendly, get a little closer. If the Bear seems unfriendly, then wave your arms and yell at the bear to "Go away." Remember, the Bear is surprised to see a human; just as surprised as you are to see the Bear.

If you run, the Bear will assume you are prey, and would make a good dinner, and chase you. You do no want that. Just back away slowly, keeping your eyes on the Bear, but not looking it eye-to-eye, which the Bear might take as a challenge.

Blessings and Bear hugs from a really gentle, Canadian Bear!

  21. I just saw a video in which a bear in a zoo saves a crow from drowning, so hopefully that will allay the bad rap.

Btw I am in Athens and just past Socrates Street, a perfect place for a Post Socratic Gadfly :))

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
