When it comes to the weather, things are pretty ordinary in the land of the Bears. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Occasionally, when there is a chance of a severe thunderstorm or blizzard, we get a watch notice or warning from Environment Canada (the weather guys and gals).
Today, something different. A "Heat Warning." I don't think I have ever seen that before.
The combined heat and humidity are going to reach 40C (that's 104F; it is also unusual — which, I guess, is why there is a warning). I suppose for some of you, 40C or 104F is not uncommon, so there is no surprise when your air temperature reaches that. But it's quite surprising for us. And very "uncool," in both senses of that word.
They didn't needed to tell the Bears it was going to be hot. J and I went shopping. The store was air conditioned. When we came out, the air immediately caught her breath. Nothing serious, but noteworthy. Harder breathing in the hot, humid weather.
We got home, got inside, turned on the air conditioning, and decided to lay low for the rest of the day. Which seems reasonable, as it is way too hot for doing much of anything. Though it might be great if you're drying hay or holding a pool party. (We have neither hay nor pool.) Even the birds and the neighbourhood cats are staying in the shade. Yes, it's that hot.
Whatever your temperature. I hope you can stay relatively comfortable in your weather.
And if we can't be cool, we can at least think cool.
That is the Hubbard Glacier, which we saw on our cruise to Alaska. Even it is receding quickly in the changing climate. Sigh.
Anyhow, blessings and Bear hugs (if hugs won't make you too hot)!
Today's Weather Report
Nice, bright, sunny day. Currently 27°C (or 81F) going to 30C (86F). I've already told you the rest.
I don't mind heat as long as the humidity stays real low! Like here in Central Oregon on the high desert! Keep your cool, Bear.
ReplyDeleteKeep my cool? Not so sure.
DeleteI'll try to "keep cool but stay warm."
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Well we had a hard time getting our hay done because it was never dry nor hot enough for more than one or two days in a row. Today it is 19c here and I am glad hay is finally done now I am looking for my lined coveralls and snowshoes:) Keep cool Bear. Hug B
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been following your blog, and reading about your challenges. Now that you're done, there is going to be great haying weather. It usually happens that way.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Ha finally! how funny - think the cold has hit your comment box, took ages to do that whirring, just part of the waft and weft of life. I spend so many hours at the computer these days I never know what the weather is doing sadly
ReplyDeleteThanks for your note, Jody. I try not to spend all day on the computer. Which reminds me; I have flowers in the garden that need to be watered. In this kind of heat, and with very sandy ground, things need to be watered more often.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Ugh. That's uncomfortable even when you're use to it. I think you need to soak a cool tub. That would call off a bear, right?
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Not so sure about that. Perhaps a cold waterfall, or, failing that, a cold shower. Yes, that sounds better. Thanks, Reffie!
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
I'm sorry to hear about your extreme heatwave, Bear, and hope it doesn't last much longer. I know how much bears enjoy tracking through autumn leaves.
ReplyDeleteThanks, susan. I hope we're finished soon with this heat.
DeleteThere will be lots of autumn leaves, which will need to be raked up!
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Oh my goodness! YES. That is incredibly hot for you all, and I do hope that you find/found ways to keep cool.
ReplyDeleteBreathing in the air that has been conditioned is always wonderful to me.
Sending you KOOL thoughts.
Hugs and smiles to you, my friend,
Jackie
Thanks, Jackie! It has all been "a bit much"! Perhaps next week will be better.
DeleteHope you are having a wonderful summer.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
We have been so lucky with extremely cool temps this summer. It has been about average from 10-15 C this week.Abnormal but I rather have cooler than hotter. It has been abnormally cool which everyone besides myself has been crabbing about. I will take it any day over hot and humid.
ReplyDeleteI entirely understand, Kristy. It is easier to warm up, buy putting on a sweater, than trying to cool down.
DeleteTake care!
Blessings and Bear hugs!
We have had three years of horrendous summer heat to the point that I almost dreaded summer's arrival this year. Instead, we got the most beautiful summer weather ever ( or at least it seems that way). It is actually as cold today as we would find in early fall. They say it is due to the jet stream bringing cool Canadian air our way. We sure appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteWe're always glad to help friends! Up here, I suppose, most people like the hot weather. It's just us Bears who complain.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Our oppressive heat finally broke and now we have nice cool foggy days. That sun will be breaking out for the weekend, however, and warming things up for us, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI do hope you enjoy your "nice cool foggy days." I suspect cooler and foggier days are coming.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Bear, I am delighted to report that August 2014 is treating New York City with kindness. Usually August is a challenge. Not this time.
ReplyDeleteFor this we are truly grateful. xo
Glad you are having friendly weather, Frances. The weather affects so many things that we do, or don't do.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Here in Indiana the weather is unseasonably cool these days. It needs to warm a bit back up so we can enjoy the swimming pool we got this summer. It was in the 40's this morning and only 73 at mid-day. :P
ReplyDeleteWell, the people are pretty cool in Indiana, so this is good. Have fun in the swimming pool!
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs.
104 is just nasty! We haven't gotten over 100 degrees this summer, which is nice. We've really only been in the 90s a few days. Of course, summer isn't totally over yet, but it's been a nice one, for the most part.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know you have been getting "liveable" temperatures. Heat is hard for both people and animals. August is usually a bit worse than July up here, so I'm waiting to see what happens.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Wow, 40 degrees Celsius feels hot here in north India as well. This year, it nearly went to 48 or 49.
ReplyDeleteTake care, bear.
Well, you have been hot! I can't say for sure, but I suspect such temperatures are higher than normal even for you. Do try to stay as cool as possible.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
If only we had Prime Ministers who believed in climate change...
ReplyDeleteIf only we had a Prime Minister who believes in climate change, too! Sigh!
DeletePeace, joy, and Bear hugs!
PS: Hugs are always cool.
ReplyDeleteEspecially from a Polar Bear.
DeleteHi Rob-bear
ReplyDeleteWe have had some hot days here but not as hot at it's there.
Next week , it will be in the 80's ... sounds good ...
Take good care and be well
God bless ...
Well, Margie, 80s is better than 90s. It's good if you like that. I hope you enjoy the warmer-than-warm weather.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
That's pretty hot for sure. I hope you can stay comfortable. I know how miserable that feels for so many. I'm one of those weirdos who loves the heat of summer.. but then again, we do have A/C and a lake. We've been having autumn-ish weather for the last few days. We've even had the heat on for a bit. I'm willing to trade..
ReplyDeleteStay comfy, Bear!
We are managing to stay reasonably comfortable throughout the heat wave. We find that if we turn the a/c on for a bit here and there, we are able to keep the house comfortable. Anyhow, I hope you keep enjoying the heat in the meantime. When you're hot, you're hot!
DeleteAnd you had the heat on for a bit? Wow, talk about a country of contrasts!
Blessings and Bear hugs, Hilary.
That's about the same temperature it's been around here for a few weeks. Air conditioning is so nice after being outside in heat like that. Most people around here try to do shopping ect at night after the sun has gone down. Good thing most stores are open 24/7 in Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteNight or early morning shopping is one way to beat the heat. But few stores are open 24/7 up here. How do your pets make it through the hot weather?
DeleteBlessing and Bear hugs!
Wow - 40c is really hot for your neck of the woods! What does a bear do to keep cool?
ReplyDeleteHay baling, just about the most misery one can inflict on a teenager.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I hate summer. A/C is such a gift.
