I heard this noise. It woke me, and since I wasn't quite awake, so I had to listen to it a couple more times.
My cell phone. My cell phone is ringing.
Which was peculiar, because only family members (and a few others) have my phone number. (Bear is actually quite a private Bear.) So, if it's someone calling, it must be important.
Crawl of bed. Hunt for call phone. Finally find cell phone. Go to open cell phone. It stops ringing.
This has gone from being GRrrr to being GGGRRRR.
Wander into study and wake up computer. (It's usually about as sleepy as I am.) Find my phone book app. Type phone number into reverse look-up. Sit and wait. Finally a message comes: "no listings were found."
Translation: it was a telemarketer. At 7:30 in the morning. When I was sound asleep.
GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
But by then, I was feeling well and truly "bounced" — as if Tigger (friend of Winnie the Pooh) had enthusiastically landed on my bed, front paws on my shoulders, with a cheery "Good morning, Bear!"
I appreciated the sentiment, but it was most certainly not feeling like a very good morning. I mean, have you had a Tigger "bounce" you when you were still sound asleep? Children, perhaps; a Tigger, not so much, if at all.
I had to go somewhere, so I had breakfast, sent myself to the shower, got dressed, and headed out. I was still feeling edgy, a bit nervous. I couple of very minor things happened, but they upset me — more like threw me off course, mentally. I noticed that my reaction times were slower than usual. I was not as steady.
Anyhow, I did what I needed to do. I got home, still feeling a bit "bounced." After several cups of tea, and lunch, I started feeling a little better.
GgRrrR!!
So, dear friends, have you ever been "bounced" by a #@&$^ telemarketer, first thing in the morning? How did you feel about that?
Sigh! I feel tired, all over again.
Blessings and Bear hugs, friends!
Today's Weather Report
Bright and sunny, with a bit of haze or very thin clouds. Temperature at -9C (16F); with wind chill, feels like -15C (5F). Could turn out to be a nice day.
Oh yes, most irritating! Fortunately, you can take a nap in the middle of the day and nobody will notice...
ReplyDeletep.s. you went out, braving that weather?
Oh my! Never a telemarketer ... however a sister who sometimes forgets the three hour time zone separating us! Grrrrrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteNot happy with telemarketer calls at any time of the day....much less that hour of the morning.
ReplyDeleteDo you have the "Do Not Call" registry that you can list your numbers under.
It does work, if it is available to you.
Bear hugs to you,
Jackie
Have not been awakened by a telemarketer, but did receive a 4 a.m. call from an airline notifying me my flight had been canceled.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to go back to sleep after that - I don't blame you for growling all day long.
My very last telemarketer (before I put all my numbers on the Do Not Call list) was at 8:30 in the evening. I burned that guy's ears off about the time. It's just the lack of respect. I do remember a time when phones weren't answered during meal times. Now everyone carried a phone around. I would love to throw mine in crick some days. I hope you have a better "wake-up" tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful for caller ID and don't answer any number that I am unfamiliar with. My cell phone is usually in my purse so I often don't hear it. If it important, they will call me back. The landline rings often during the day, and it is mostly robo calls or a politician and therefore there is no reason to answer. However, 7:30 am is early for them.
ReplyDeleteTelemarketers on cell phone are bad news! We've had them call at night, at 8:59 PM. Ugh. At least I can see the caller id and not pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI hope you got a warm nap in the bear den this afternoon!
Bear, when I realize just how cold your part of Canada is, I almost feel that NYC is warm. Almost! We are due more snow tomorrow. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteI do get calls from tele-marketers, but never quite that early. I would also have been very annoyed and been taken a bit off balance for the rest of the day.
At last, it does seem apparent that the daylight hours are on the way towards springtime. Wonder if that also encourages early a.m. unwanted telephoners? Joking! xo
Like the previous poster, I'm grateful for caller ID. I only answer calls from people I know. The rest can leave a message.
ReplyDeleteHope you get a good night's rest.
I have a unique talent: I can sleep through the ringing of the phone. Calling me is a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I'm an early riser, but my husband hates it when the phone (our land line) rings early on a Saturday morning. He expresses a few growls, too.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, the recent calls don't start until about 10 a.m. as opposed to 8 a.m. in the past. I have number to call to block specific numbers and will sometimes take the time to do so.
No marketers at that hour but my mother is notorios for the 5:45am phone call....
ReplyDeleteWe do get some, but not nearly so many telemarketer calls here in Canada as we did in the US. I've long been in the habit of letting the answering machine pick up whatever calls come in unless I know in advance it's someone I want to talk to. Let the machines talk to each other has long been my motto.
ReplyDeleteI discovered how I can set my phone not to ring unless I choose it to. From 6:00pm in the evening until 6:00in the morning, only people I put in a special file can call me. And I DO indeed get lots of weird telemarketing type calls. Not sure, because I don't answer them. :-)
ReplyDeleteAh! You have your own Telemarketer stories. Thanks for the thoughts, and the suggestions. I wonder if the "Do not call" list really works up here. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of a one-liner that fits here: "Last week I couldn't pronounce telemarketer; now I is one."
Blessings and Bear hugs, everyone!
Hi Rob-bear! Getting “bounced” by a telemarketer at 7:30 in the morning is just awful. Grrrrrr indeed! I really hate it when I jump out of bed to answer a call and it turns out to be a telemarketer. Makes me very grumpy! Big bear hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the do not call list (I only have a cell phone, no land line). I will say that once my husband forgot to turn off his cell at night, and some idiot on Craigslist called about a listing we had at 1:30 am. People on Craigslist are crazy! Still...it is a good way to sell old stuff.
ReplyDeleteRob-Bear
ReplyDeleteI get calls at night time from too many telemarketers but I pick up the phone and hang up, they never get the message and keep calling back.
I did get a recent call a few weeks ago at 6 am and I had not planned on answering but glad I did as it was my sister with good news about her health.
Be well and bless you
I have but it's been a while because all I have is a landline and I don't have one of the phones in my bedroom because when I'm sleeping whoever it is can just leave a voicemail and I'll listen to it when I'm good and ready. Plus, I sleep with foam earplugs in so nothing disturbs my sleep. I am a real bear if I get woke up early. It's not pretty...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry!!OUr landline is a black hole - we never ever answer it. I am not a phone person anyway, everyone knows just to emails us. We do have a subscribing thing that translates the calls (badly) to our email which is helpful
ReplyDeleteI hate telemarketers. I put an app on my android phone that blocks calls like this and it is the bomb! Finally did away with the land line because that was all that ever called us on that. Now we only have cell phones...with a lovely call block app.
ReplyDeleteUgh.. I know how annoying that can be. I used to have one repetitive call every single night at 4am. It was a fax, actually and I would get those high pitched beeps when I answered. This went on for over a year. This was before I had a cell so I was reluctant to make my phone unavailable with two teen boys.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been woken up by telemarketing a few times in the early hours.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
I am not a morning person and if I did receive those calls then (or even worse at night which would alarm me greatly (!) I would be LIVID. Mostly I get them in early evening or later on in the daytime.
ReplyDeleteI have started to either start yelling at them or just hang up. The solar energy people are really calling hard.
ReplyDeleteI suppose everyone needs (or at least wants) a job of some sort. But calling people at horrid hours? A little common sense would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
