First golden tinges
of fall
begin to
spread themselves
among the verdant splendour
of summer.
(Oops; this isn't the poetry blog. But I suppose nobody will mind. Really, it doesn't matter, when all is said and done.)
GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
The "Finder" in my computer is all messed up and will not function. Meaning I cannot get the picture in here.
Can you tell I am not amused? Well, I'm not. I'm suffering consternation at this point.
Really, it's a nice picture of some green trees, with one yellow tree in their midst, and the river in the background. But words fail to describe the colours.
Sorry!
The Next War (WWIII?)
It seems the United States is going to intervene militarily in Syria. A physical invasion army is not being planned — yet. But ships carrying cruise missiles are approaching the Syrian beaches in the Mediterranean Sea. Airplanes (fighter-bombers) are being moved into positions within striking distance of Syria. Does any of this seem remotely familiar? Libya, perhaps? Iraq, perhaps?
The US is a country that is trillions of dollars in debt, yet it apparently wants to start another war. Over oil. Or something. Essentially by helping Al Queda overthrow the Syrian government, and kill a lot of Christians in the process — though you don't hear about that on major news channels. This gets weirder by the minute. Some might even say more pathological.
We Canadians have a vested interest in this too, because our pro-war government will want to be in there with both feet, as we have been in Afghanistan. Remember Afghanistan; that's another conflict which is still brewing. The west, clearly, lost that war, though it seems the US is hanging on to the oil fields. Anyhow, we Canadians seem to be following US aggression much more eagerly these days. We have one ship to contribute to the process; a symbolic move. Sadly!

But perhaps President Obama believes the 34th Ferengi Rule of Acquisition, which says, "War is good for business." (That means business owners, but not workers, by the way.) But the mythical Ferengi are a Star Trek invention, as are their Rules. Somebody wants to go into a war based on a fantasy? Please folks, the Bear is a little brighter than to buy that.
Anyhow, that's something that Bears Noting in the coming weeks.
The thing that makes this a bit tricky is that Russia is an ally of Syria. I don't think any of us wants to see the US and Russians fighting it out. Please, let's not go there!
"Pictures?" you ask? Sorry, computer malfunction.
I realize that, for some of you, Desert Epiphanies will hold no interest at all. Which is why I keep it as a kind of blogging "sidebar" — and not my main publication. I have posted something new there, which you can read if you wish. I expect to be posting more there over the short term. (If you don't want to miss the instalments, you may wish to add Desert Epiphanies to your bloggers' block — though I will remind you here when I post something there, though notice here at Bears Noting may be slow in coming.)
Blessings and Bear hugs, friends!

A House, A House . . .
Renovations at our son's and dil's place are coming along boldly. The windows are in. I expect the next thing will be the shingling of the roof. But what does a Bear know about such things?"Pictures?" you ask? Sorry, computer malfunction.
Thinking Faithfully
I thought I had put away some of my blogs, but now I'm getting one out again. No, it's not Chrome on the Range. It's Desert Epiphanies (that's a link), my faith-spirituality-theology blog.I realize that, for some of you, Desert Epiphanies will hold no interest at all. I've noticed the change in seasons. I really can't believe summer is at its end. Autumn is amazing, but I don't wish for winter yet. Too cold and dangerous driving conditions. Life move on though as it should.
ReplyDeleteGreat poems, by the way!
Autumn is my favourite seasons. I was born in September, and have always liked the crisp leaves, bright sun but cool air. Ah, yes!
DeleteAs far as I'm concerned, winter can wait a while.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Dear Bear,
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely terrified at the mere mention of getting involved in the Syria mess ... terrified!
I can understand something of how you feel. It is not a great situation. And while the use of chemical weapons is appalling, I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye. I've been looking into that, and your ol' reporter will have something on that, tomorrow.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs.
I know it's wrong, but I can hardly bring myself to think of the Syria situation. There are NO good options. But I just said I cannot think about it. I'll think about my friend, Rob-Bear, and send him cyber hugs instead. <<>>
ReplyDeleteYou're right, DJan, there are no good options. Actually, there are some, but nobody seems interested in them, so we'll take them off the table.
DeleteThanks for the cyber hugs. Can't get too many hugs, especially when you're a bear!
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Ah, I've done that, confuse which blog has what content, and then try to send people to search around. Actually, you are most kind to keep reminding us which is which.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosaria. Sometimes even I forget. But I'm working on keeping my mind sharper.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs.
I am very worried about my country going into Syria and a WWIII breaking out. Do I think that the invasion of Iraq (both of them) was about oil, you betcha. Afghanistan was a terrible mistake (has no oil, but is strategic) and it was a "what were they thinking". However, it was Cheney and Bush and the Haliburtan war machine. Obama does not want to be part of that legacy. Do I think he has made mistakes, yes, but I think he is a good man.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening in Syria is beyond horrendous. Do we sit back and let this new Hitler do what he wants? Whether they are Christians, Muslims or worship rocks, they are all human beings whose lives matter. However, we in America, cannot handle another war, cannot be the world police, cannot give anymore. Do I think our President wants another war,do the people in the states want to sacrifice anymore, no, no, no. Do I want another country to stand up to this tyrant who is murdering his own citizens with chemicals and other means, yes, I do. However, no matter what anyone does, I just know it will turn out badly for many, us included. I keep hoping that another solution will be found. I have children and grandchildren who I want to look forward to a long, peaceful life. With the weapons that are out there today, that does not look likely.
Assad must go; where is James Bond when we need him?
I take offense with "America wants to start a war. "
ReplyDeleteBeing an American I can assuredly say that none of us WANTS to start a war.
Rob, I have a different reaction about Syria. Using chemical weapons on civilians anywhere in the world is so horrible and wrong that something must be done . I wish the United Nations were totally clear in that belief and that stance.
ReplyDeletePlease put poetry on this blog sometimes too if you would. :-)
Love
kj
I agree with you that something has to be done. But when there are lots of indications that the gas attack was done by the rebels, not the government. One needs to paws(I mean "pause") and ask more questions. I'm waiting for the UN staff to make a report.
DeleteI worry that your administration is taking a "my mind's made up; don't confuse me with facts" approach. I truly hope that is not so. I do not understand the rush, prior to the UN report.
Poetry on this blog is a possibility.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
Hope you get the computer problem fixed, sometimes it's a simple fix. I'm horrible about fixing computer problems, if I can't find the answer on Google I have to find someone who actually knows what they're doing to fix it.
ReplyDeleteLets hope we don't get pulled into another war, we do not need to do this again.
I was watching a commentator on the news and brought up The point three hundred bullets or gas have the same results 300 dead people. It is sad that people die all the time in the Middle East from Drones,Bullets and Bombs and no one says a thing or even most people can care. Use gas they all go nuts.
ReplyDeleteHope The Bear likes fall. It really seems to be changing a lot in Ontario also.
Bear, none of my friends think that our country should get involved in Syria. We care writing to our elected representatives, including the President.
ReplyDeleteWe've done this sort of letter writing many times in the past, going back to the Viet Nam era.
And so it goes.
xo
Sorry to hear the sad news Frances. Hope your letter-writing goes well.
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
Kristy, the drones take war to another dr personalized level and the gas is even above that. In my opinion this is something that cannot be sanctioned, even passively, on the planet . We humans from any country do nothing when chemical weapons are used and we are opening a terrible fate. Imagine gas in New York City or London or Moscow. Myself, I wish Obama had not waited until the gas was used. I wish he had backed the 'red line' when he said he would .
ReplyDelete:-(
I'm sure a cat has caused your computer to malfunction.
ReplyDeleteSigh. They rule the world.
We wish it were that easy, right?
I hope your weather is a bit cooler now. Enjoy the onset of color!
Trust a cat, with access to a computer, to do something like that.
DeleteDo you know any cats with access to a computer? At your place, perhaps?
Hot days (90F), cool evenings (~65F). Autumn is creeping in.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
I am one American who wants no more war. I'll check out your other blog.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I certainly agree with you, Janie. What a perfectly terrible way to spoil an autumn!
DeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
No war, please! I hope the computer problems are over with for you! Want to see some pictures ;o) Hugs ;o)
ReplyDeleteHoward Zinn had many wise things to say about our current condition with this one being a long time favorite of mine:
ReplyDelete“We need to decide that we will not go to war, whatever reason is conjured up by the politicians or the media, because war in our time is always indiscriminate, a war against innocents, a war against children”
I'm not really certain how to think about Syria or the worsening conditions in most of the world. It makes me a wreck so I must compartmentalize it periodically to maintain my sense of inner balance. I have written letters and called my reps re the need to slow down and make solid decisions...I am so doubtful as to what if any good it all does...
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note... I noticed that one of your commenters mentioned a cat at the computer... skip pawed at mine during a recent video and well the rest is history... lets just say he fancies himself a mix master now...
I've given up trying to figure out what our govt is up to. Maybe one day it will all be clear but right now I just can't even wrap my head about the trillion dollars in debt. You should write a post about the devaluation of the dollar as the world standard currency and what that's going to do-- I shudder to think of it. When it happens it'll be the Chinese come knocking to collect their interest payments. Let's hope they don't arrive in missiles.
ReplyDeleteI am sick at the idea of more war!
ReplyDeleteI am praying it does not happen but looks like it will :(
Peace and blessings to you, Rob-Bear.
Love the poem, Rob. I should write it more often. Have to get back to that. I share your pain with issues of photos and computers...always a pain in my opinion. But your description is good and my mind's eye sees it. Oh, war, war...I don't listen to the news so I won't hear all of that stuff. Wish I could convince Ralph to do the same. I'd rather hear poetry!
ReplyDeleteI don't know a single soul who is happy about the Syrian mess. But alas, my government does not speak for it's people. I hope your computer burps will work themselves out soon. I can't stand it when I am not in jive with my computer! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo sad good business is only for the owners.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine once told me the rules of honesty and goodness are nothing when it comes to foreign relations. We here in India cry when US or other western countries try to lessen immigration. But we (our govt, that is) are trying to contain immigration from Bangladesh and some other nations. In turn, Bangladesh is trying to stop immigration of Rohignya Muslims from Myanmar. Everyone is the victim as well as the accused.
I saw the pictures of Bear's son's home just a few mins back. It is great to see. Congrats to him :-)
War is hell, but gassing innocent children is also hell. How to help these people is the real question and I wouldn't want to be in Obama's place right now. Tough decision. We also need to help the 130,000 Syrian refugees who are living in a tent city in the Jordanian desert. Catholic Relief Services is an excellent charitable organization and the majority of donations goes directly to those in need.
ReplyDeleteMy head seems to tighten when I think of the Syria situation. So many viewpoints and opinions... I now have your take on it, which give me more to ponder, which "is" what we all should be doing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your picture gadget working soon. Frustrating, eh?
As Amanda says both sides are hell. I see a lot of ex servicemen (from Vietnam and Korea) homeless on the streets of San francisco and I'm sure many from the Iraq war will join them soon as there seems to be totally insufficient services when they come home maimed . The whole thing is awful.
ReplyDeleteThe world would be a lot better place if everyone would just handle it and get along. Gassing innocent children and people is uncalled for. As far as fall, it is hotter than the blazes of hell in my neck of the woods but the leaves are actually falling from the trees!!
ReplyDeleteIt took me ages to get back to your post. I agree the US is not being very smart at the moment. Let us hope for peaceful outcome!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY .... DEAR ROB-BEAR, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday greetings, Helen. So much better than a battle report!
DeleteBlessings an Bear hugs!
