BEAR'S LIVESTOCK REPORT AND OTHER MATTERS

Well, looks like an interesting assortment of livestock around here this year. Several Black-capped Chickadees. A couple of American Robins and a couple of Cedar Waxwings. All very delightful. (Plus a few House Sparrows and Rock Doves — aka Pigeons.) Maybe we'll have a nest or two in the yard, or nearby. But I hope not pigeons on the roof — they wake J far too early!

I finally got down to the river, which is virtually ice-free. Spring seems to be coming along.

Most interesting: some of the ice has been pushed up on the rocks. I've never seen anything like this before.

Strange crystalline shapes and blocks. Fascinating!

Through much of the winter, I struggled around with a very bad back. I even had to use my third leg (the wooden one). I am thrilled to say that things are much better now! Time to celebrate!

And apropos of perhaps absolutely nothing, a picture I came across. On Facebook (where else?).

Hmmmm. Different ways with words intrigue me.

Many of you have left very kind notes, in relation to my prior post. I'll make a point of replying to them next week.

Blessings and Bear hugs, friends!

Today's Weather Report
So: 5C tonight, 8C tomorrow morning. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 18C. (For easy conversion, 20C = 68F). We're expecting a clear night, with lots of sunshine and a few clouds tomorrow. That is wonderful!

Maybe I'll get to play in the garden tomorrow.

  1. The ice pictures are quite neat. I does look like spring is coming to you. Winter is definitely not good for sore backs. I do hope you play in your garden. Mine is still covered with a pile of snow.

    1. Thanks for coming by and visiting! Hope your snow (of which you had too much this winter) is going away, and that you've got birds and other livestock showing up.

  2. As lovely as those pictures of the ice on the bank are, the scene will be even nicer when it all melts and the warm spring weather takes over.

    1. I think the spring weather has, in fact, taken hold. It's about 10:30, and the temperature is 13C in the way up to 19C. I think all our snow has melted, so that's a good sign. A bit too early for gardening outside, but we've got a few thing set inside.

  3. Goodness, you'll need to strip down tomorrow, or is it today? 68 is balmy where I sit.

    1. That's an interesting thought, rosaria, but I'm stuck inside this fur coat 24/7, and there's not much I can do about that. Except go for a swim in the river when the temperature is unBearable.

  4. Welcome back to the world, it's definitely spring.
Our tulips and daffodils are bobbing in a gentle breeze and cheering us up no end.

    1. With daffodils up, I thought you might be in Wales. Mais, non.
Hope spring in France is merveilleux. Or in England, for that matter.

  5. I just came in from a couple of hours in the garden, and I was complaining about my sore back when I lowered myself down into my recliner. Ouch! Hope your back is better soon, Bear. Glad to see you're out of hibernation mode. :-)

    1. Glad to hear you're gardening for another year, DJan. Way too cold up here to expect much of anything to live outside. We are tentatively planting some things inside, so they get a good start.
Sorry to hear you have a bad back in a recliner. Perhaps a straighter chair might be helpful. As for my back, well, I do know that I have one. It reminds me regularly.
BTW, when does spring hiking season begin?

  6. Your ice on the rocks picture reminds me so some long ago school science class experiment, though I cannot now remember any details.

Glad that the thaw is on around your den.

Much warmer here as well, although I did wear my down coat to work today. At least I didn't need any gloves.

    1. Glad to know things are cheering up (and springing up) in New York. Glad you like the ice pictures from "up north."
And if it's worth anything, J and I went for a walk after supper. She was wearing her down coat; I think it will be a while before she surrenders that.
      Blessings and Bear hug, Frances!

Interesting photos...don't know how they could be formed so interestingly.

  8. Can't believe there is still ice in your river! But I recall we had April ice out dates for our lake I lived next to in Minnesota. How quickly one forgets when you live a little further south. May warner weather be heading your way.

  9. Those are some cool ice formations. We had lows in the 50's last night and thought we were going to freeze! I'm glad spring is making it's way up there for you. Glad to hear about improvements to your back. Those things do a lot for the bear!

  10. The ice crystal pictures are really interesting. I don't think I've seen anything like that before. Glad to hear that your back is a bit better.

    1. I seem to remember something about crystalline structures on Star Trek. Not very friendly as I recall. These are quite friendly, or at least benign.

So glad you've dropped by the Bear's den. Please leave a note -- getting notes is such fun, and often informative. I'll get back to you, here or by e-mail, as soon as I can (or, if it's winter, after I wake up). 'Til then, please Bear with me.
